At 17, I was in the local YMCA. It was a Saturday and I was playing basketball. As I came down with a rebound, I felt a "tweak" in my knee. I subbed out and decided to lift instead. In my stupidity, I went to the squat rack. 10 minutes removed from tweaking my knee, I loaded 315 onto the bar... and tore my meniscus.

 

Athleticism never came naturally to me. Injuries seemed too. I've always had a mind for sport, but my body couldn't keep up.

 

I blamed my flat feet. I have broken toes, rolled ankles, herniated discs, and now I'd torn a knee ligament. Surgery wasn't an option, and neither was physical therapy. My dad handed me "Pain Free," by Pete Egoscue. Well-intentioned, but not enough.

 

11 years later I am a statistic anomaly. My feet are still "flat," but now they're strong, mobile, and functional. 3 things I was told they never would be. My knee now has an elite level of pain-free ability. Oh, and I've lost over 100 lbs (at once). My body is not impenetrable, but, it is more resilient than ever and has more ability than most.
